What you need: half a juicy lemon

To kick start your natural housecleaning, check out this method for cleaning the microwave.  Lemon juice will remove even the most stubborn microwave crud.  If the two minutes of cooking/5 minutes of sitting don’t work the first time, do a second round.   You will need very little elbow grease.  In the process you will also boost your confidence in the effectiveness of green methods with your sparkling clean microwave. I also love the way this makes my kitchen smell!

    As a mild acid, lemon would help cut soap scum, which is generally alkali. You can dilute it at a ratio of 1 c. juice to 3 c. water, and spray it on the scum. A vinegar rinse would also work at the same ratio.

    Bear in mind that lemon juice is perishable, so do not keep this solution in your cleaning cabinet. It will spoil.

  3. I do the same, just with a lot cheaper ingredient. I take a cup and fill it with half water half vinegar. Let it cook for about 3-4 minutes and let it sit for several minutes. Then simply wipe it off. I use vinegar because gallon of white distilled vinegar costs the same as 1 lemon. Plus I use a lot of vinegar for cleaning and don’t mind the smell.
